At The Grooming Studio, our Puppy Grooming School has been carefully designed to introduce puppies to grooming in a calm, positive and enjoyable way. Rather than expecting a young puppy to cope with a full groom on their very first visit, we build their confidence gradually through a series of four carefully planned sessions.
Each visit introduces something new while reinforcing everything your puppy has already learnt. By the end of the programme, most puppies are happy, confident and comfortable with the grooming process, making future appointments far less stressful for both them and their owners.

What Happens During Puppy Grooming School?
Our programme consists of four carefully planned sessions, each building on the last to help your puppy feel comfortable and confident.
Session One
Meet, Greet & First Table Time
The first appointment is all about building trust.
Your puppy will have the opportunity to explore the salon, become familiar with the sights, smells and sounds around them and meet Sally in a relaxed, friendly environment.
During this visit your puppy will experience gentle brushing and combing, spend a little time standing on the grooming table and hear the sound of the clippers from a distance without any clipping taking place.
This is also the perfect opportunity for you to ask questions about coat care, brushes, combs, bathing and what to expect as your puppy grows.
The aim isn’t to groom your puppy—it’s to help them leave thinking, “That was fun. I’d happily come back.”
Session Two
Bath & Blow Dry
Once your puppy is feeling comfortable in the salon, we gently introduce bathing and drying.
Using a gentle puppy shampoo, your puppy experiences their first professional bath before gradually becoming accustomed to the sounds and sensations of the dryer.
Throughout the appointment we continue practising standing calmly on the table, brushing through the coat and building confidence in a relaxed and positive environment.
Every experience is designed to feel safe, rewarding and enjoyable.
Session Three
Mini Groom
By now your puppy is beginning to understand the grooming routine, making it the perfect time to introduce a few more grooming elements.
This visit includes:
- A gentle nail trim
- Paw pad tidy
- Hygiene trim
- Careful scissoring around the face and feet
- Further introduction to clippers and scissors
Everything is carried out slowly and patiently, allowing your puppy to become familiar with each stage without feeling overwhelmed.
Session Four
Their First Full Groom
The final session is where everything comes together.
By this stage your puppy has already experienced the sights, sounds and sensations of professional grooming several times, making their first full groom a much calmer and more enjoyable experience.
During this appointment your puppy will receive:
- A full professional groom
- Styling to your preferred length
- Plenty of praise and encouragement throughout
